Student Group 'Omega Epsilon-Kappa Delta Pi' Wins ACE Award
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University chapter, Omega Epsilon-Kappa Delta Pi-International Honor Society in Education, received the "Achieving Chapter Excellence" (ACE) Award in October for outstanding programming, extraordinary membership and leadership development, and creative purposeful activities for the 2007-2009 two-year period.
The FGCU chapter competed with over 700 chapters represented by colleges and universities throughout the United States and internationally. Only 29 chapters from the international organization were selected to receive this outstanding recognition. Omega Epsilon was the only Florida chapter to receive the recognition. Additionally, Omega Epsilon was selected as FGCU's Organization of the Year for 2008.
"The chapter at FGCU is very active on the campus and in the community," said faculty counselor and associate professor Elizabeth Elliott. "Our membership is approximately 100 College of Education students. Membership changes every semester as students graduate, making this award very difficult to obtain. Not only did they win the award for the past two years, they won it for the previous two years (2005-2007) as well. This speaks volumes for the commitment of these students to the mission and vision of both FGCU and Kappa Delta Pi."
The mission of Kappa Delta Pi is to sustain an honored community of diverse educators by promoting excellence and advancing scholarship, leadership and service. Its vision is to help committed educators be leaders in improving education for global citizenship.
