FGCU Art Gallery Hosts "An Evening with Britto" Fundraiser
FORT MYERS, FL - The Art Gallery at Florida Gulf Coast University, together with Caroline Hostettler of 55 Degrees Cool Wine and Cheese, and Executive Chef Martin Murphy, will team up with Romero Britto Studios to present an evening of art, gourmet food and fine wine to benefit FGCU's Art Gallery. "An Evening with Britto" will take place at the FGCU Arts Complex gallery from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010. Tickets will be available beginning Dec. 1 for $150 per person by contacting gallery director Anica Sturdivant at (239) 590-7199 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The gallery's fundraising event features a private reception and opening exhibition of internationally acclaimed pop artist Romero Britto in "Britto: A Select Retrospective." The artist will make a one-night appearance to unveil his monumental sculpture Big Temptation, which he has graciously donated to Florida Gulf Coast University. Britto's work will also be available for purchase during the event.
Britto's work has been exhibited extensively in galleries and international museums, including the Louvre and many other venues in England, Germany, China, United States, and his native Brazil. The artist is also known for his many generous donations to charities each year. Britto's body of work includes Pop Art paintings and sculpture with his characteristic exuberant, colorful style with an emphasis on composition. His work reflects vibrant colors and lively, active lines and suggests many influences of 20th century art from Picasso and Matisse to Chagall.
"Britto: A Select Retrospective" features the early work that chronicles the development of his style, as well as examples of work he has developed for organizations such as Special Olympics, Hurricane Katrina Relief, Best Buddies International, and St. Jude Children's Hospital Research. Contemporary works and sculptures will also be part of the exhibition.
Attendees will be supporting the arts while enjoying an evening of fabulous artwork, fine wines from 55 Degrees Cool Wine and Cheese, gourmet appetizers by Executive Chef Martin Murphy of the Robb & Stucky KitchenAid Culinary Center, and music by Dost Thou Love Me of Naples. This event has been supported in kind by HW Galleries and the Hyatt Regency.
All proceeds will go to support the continuing efforts of The Art Gallery to bring cultural events and activities to the region, particularly in South Fort Myers in between the hubs of downtown Fort Myers and Naples, in the form of public events, exhibitions of national and international artists, funding for artist speakers, and gallery talks.
