FGCU Small Business Development Center Cape Coral Office to Host Four-Week Business Plan Series
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University Small Business Development Center will host a four-week Business Planning Series every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., beginning April 7 at the FGCU Cape Coral Center, located at 1020 Cultural Park Blvd., S. Unit #3 in Cape Coral.
The series will teach business owners and entrepreneurs the importance of having a formal business plan for their existing business or start-up venture.
"Business owners are often faced with the challenge of being turned down when they apply for a business loan because they do not have a business plan in place," said Bob Smoot, Certified Business Analyst for the SBDC Cape Coral office. "Financial institutions will not talk to you about a business loan unless you have the appropriate documents, including a business plan."
Topics to be discussed include:
Week 1 (April 7) Learn the importance and needs for a business plan. Clearly define the purpose for your business and the plan. Understand the basic characteristics of your business; identify your product or service strengths. Understand the different types of incorporation and how they can affect your business. Presenters are Bob Smoot and Steven Gibbs, Gibbs Law Office, PLLC.
Week 2 (April 14) Review your management skills and define your human resource needs. Identify your top three competitors and conduct a thorough analysis of your target market. Learn about resources available to help you in your community. Presenter is Bob Smoot.
Week 3 (April 21) Understand the financial components of your business. Review balance sheets and profit and loss statements. Learn how to create sales, expense and profitable forecasts. Know what the lender will look for in your financials. Presenter is Karen Mosteller, partner of Markham Norton Mosteller Wright & Company, P.A.
Week 4 (April 28) Discover how to present your plan to a lender. Learn how to package the loan and yourself to have your expectations realized. Learn it from the banker. Presenter is Kirk Myers, Wachovia Bank.
