FGCU's 25th Commencement Graduates Over 900 Students Dec. 12 at Alico Arena
FORT MYERS, FL – Florida Gulf Coast University expects to honor over 900 students during fall commencement exercises beginning at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 12 at Alico Arena.
Participating graduation candidates have been allocated tickets to provide to their guests. Tickets will be required of all guests. Members of the media will gain entry by presenting proper credentials.
FGCU Founding Dean of the Lutgert College of Business and Professor of Management Richard Pegnetter delivers the commencement address to graduates and over 3,000 family members and guests.
As inaugural dean, Pegnetter created a business school that is closely aligned with the area's economic and business communities and exceeded the standards set by AACSB International, the premier accrediting agency for colleges of business administration. He also built links with international universities and their nations' business sectors.
In 2007, he stepped out of his post as the head of Lutgert College to serve as the University's interim president while the Board of Trustees conducted the search that led to the hiring of FGCU President Wilson G. Bradshaw.
Pegnetter earned a Ph.D. in Industrial and Labor Relations, Cornell University (1971). He established the Center for Leadership and Innovation at FGCU to develop relationships with area business executives and support regional economic development. His academic focus is negotiations and conflict resolution, and he is a nationally certified, neutral arbitrator in labor-management disputes. He is active in national accreditation and conference speaker roles for AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. In 2005, he was on the statewide Board of Regents for Leadership Florida.
After 15 years at FGCU, Pegnetter prepares to retire Jan. 14. He leaves confident the Lutgert College of Business will continue to thrive, its energy sustained by the dynamic professionals that remain.
FGCU President Wilson G. Bradshaw will confer bachelor's and master's degrees in the University's five academic colleges: Arts and Sciences, Education, Health Professions, Lutgert College of Business and Professional Studies. FGCU has conferred over 10,000 degrees since fall 1997. The ceremony lasts approximately two hours.
The ceremony is FGCU's 25th commencement and includes students completing degree requirements during the summer and fall terms.
Guests and graduation candidates will be directed to parking in designated areas at Alico Arena and the North Lake housing parking lots.
