FGCU Office of Continuing Education and Off Campus Programs Hosts "The Many Dimensions of Loss" Lecture
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University's Continuing Education and Off Campus Programs presents "The Many Dimensions of Loss" lecture and luncheon for faith leaders and medical practitioners, noon to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 19 at The Atrium, 8695 College Parkway, Suite 1181, in Fort Myers. Registration and lunch is from 11:30 a.m. to noon.
Participants will be able to list and describe typology of losses including maturation/developmental losses, physical and tangible losses, symbolic losses and psycho-social losses; describe the manifestations and process of typical grief common to loss; evaluate the use of concepts such as disenfranchised grief, ambiguous loss, nonfinite loss, chronic sorrow and assumptive world for assisting in understanding the psychology of loss; describe intervention strategies for assisting persons as they cope with loss.
Kenneth J. Doka, professor of Gerontology at The College of New Rochelle and senior consultant to the Hospice Foundation of America, facilitates the workshop. Doka has written numerous books on end-of-life care, and published journal articles dealing with grief and loss issues.
There is no cost for the lecture; however, clergy or healthcare professionals desiring a Certificate of Attendance, the cost is $10. Contact hours through State of Florida's CE Broker for most healthcare professions available; cost for contact hours is $15. Seating is limited to 75, and reservations are required.
