FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University hosts the FGCU's Software Technologies Distinguished Lecture Series at 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 24 in Academic Building 7, Auditorium 114, with an inaugural lecture by Thomas Hilburn on "Software Engineering: The Profession." Hilburn is professor emeritus of software engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, in Daytona Beach, Fla.
FGCU's Software Technologies Distinguished Lecture Series has a four-year tradition. Organized by the Computer Science and Information Systems faculty, jointly with Economic
Development Partners of Collier, Lee and Charlotte counties, and the Southwest Florida Regional Technology Partnership, the lecture series' objectives is to educate both the professionals and a broader audience in the intricacies of modern technologies of software development and provide a forum for exchange of ideas among the participants.
This year, included among the speakers are recent graduates of the FGCU's Computer Science program. Since graduation, the students have successfully commenced their professional careers as software engineers in the most prominent organizations, e.g., Microsoft and NASA, as well as in local companies that contribute to the local economy.
