FGCU Center for Environmental and Sustainability Education Hosts Rachel Carson Distinguished Lecture Speakers

FORT MYERS, FL - The Center for Environmental and Sustainability Education at Florida Gulf Coast University hosts Akpezi Ogbuigwe and Heila Lotz-Sisitka as guest speakers for the week of March 28 at FGCU and various events in the area.

Ogbuigwe, director of Environmental Education and Training, United Nations, Nairobi; and Heila Lotz-Sisitka, chair of Environmental Education and Sustainability, Rhodes University, South Africa, will present "The Africa You Don't Know: A Women's Perspective" at the following venues:

Thursday, March 31, 12:20 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. - Presentation for students at Dunbar High School, 3800 East Edison Avenue, Fort Myers. The event is designed for participants from Dunbar High School. Sponsored by the Center for Environmental and Sustainability Education and FGCU. Free and open to the public. To confirm attendance, contact Laurie Metz at LaurieEM@leeschools.net.

Thursday, March 31, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. - Presentation for public and private school teachers, students and community members at Edison Park Creative and Expressive Arts School, 2401 Euclid Avenue, Fort Myers. This event is for public and private school teachers, students and community members interested in environmental education, environmental science, African history, African current affairs and empowering girls and women. Sponsored by the Whitaker Center, FGCU, and the Center for Environmental and Sustainability Education. Friday, April 1, 7:30 p.m. - Rachel Carson Distinguished Lecture, "The Africa You Don't Know: A Women's Perspective," at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 2304 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel Island.
