The African Network of Southwest Florida, Inc. Establishes Scholarship Fund at FGCU
FORT MYERS, FL - The African Network of Southwest Florida, Inc. has established a scholarship fund at Florida Gulf Coast University to financially assist students of African descent in their educational journey at the university for the benefit of African people.
"The African Network of Southwest Florida Scholarship Endowment" will be used to award scholarships to students who have demonstrated excellent pre-college academic credentials, are degree-seeking undergraduate students, and have completed the university's applications, describing any family hardship and how the degree's discipline will benefit the people of Africa.
The African Network of Southwest Florida, Inc. (ANSWFL) was formed in March 2004 to promote Africa's rich heritage and diverse culture to empower future generations of Africans in Diaspora. Its mission is to enhance the quality of life for the men, women and children of African descent by promoting literacy, raising awareness of African culture and diversity past, present and future.
FGCU's International Services was instrumental in guiding the ANSWFL's development of this relationship with FGCU. "Members of the ANSWFL felt welcomed at FGCU, and establishing a scholarship here is a way of expanding their relationship with the university, advancing their community presence and supporting future generations of Africans," said Elaine Hozdik, director of International Services.
