FGCU Bower School of Music Presents Guest Lecture Nov. 14
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) Bower School of Music presents "Beautiful," a guest lecture by music educator Robert Duke at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14 in Music Building U. Tobe Recital Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Dr. Duke is the Marlene and Morton Meyerson Centennial Professor and head of music and human learning at The University of Texas at Austin, where he is University Distinguished Teaching Professor, Elizabeth Shatto Massey Distinguished Fellow in Teacher Education, and Director of the Center for Music Learning.
The lecture will explore the reasons why formal education often fails to make substantive and lasting changes in how learners think and behave; and consider how to design learning experiences that lead to advantageous changes in cognition, affect, and behavior, all of which are components of expertise in every discipline.
Established in 2006, the Bower School of Music attracts and cultivates gifted musicians from around the world with degree programs in music education and performance and state-of-the-art studio and concert facilities. The school's music faculty and students provide a vital cultural component to FGCU campus life, performing solo and ensemble concerts throughout the academic year that draw music lovers from all over Southwest Florida.
