FGCU College of Education Receives Gift to Assist Faculty in the Use of Mobile Technology in the Classroom
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The College of Education at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) recently received a generous gift from a private donor to assist FGCU faculty in the use of mobile technology in the classroom.
Mobile technology as a teaching tool is an emerging trend in Southwest Florida school districts. The College of Education is committed to training future educators how to use technology in their classrooms.
"The College believes that if we as educators want to engage and motivate students, we need to use the tools they are using," said Dean of the College of Education Marci Greene. "This is true in public schools and institutions of higher education."
A 12-week training program for faculty consisting of online modules and face-to-face meetings kicks off Feb. 13. The course will explore topics such as: using tablets, smartphones, and notebooks to engage students as active learners; using technology to create relevant and challenging learning experiences; and selecting the most appropriate and effective apps for teaching.
