The FSBDC at FGCU Honors Civil Rights Advocate Nelson Mandela at its 2014 Supplier Diversity Matchmaker Workshop

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Florida SBDC at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) invites businesses to attend the 2014 Supplier Diversity Matchmaker Workshop, Friday, June 6. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with procurement specialist in one-on-one sessions and prospect for project work with local, state, and federal government entities. The matchmaker event will provide educational information to business owners on the importance of doing business with the city, county, state, and federal government.

The event takes place in Sugden Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. This is a no cost event but reservations are required. To register, go online at sbdcseminars.org or call the main office at (239) 745-3700.

The event features on-site certification with the Office of Supplier Diversity (OSD) / Florida Department of Management Services (DMS). Participants interested in Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) certification should contact Millie Class in advance of the event via email at mclass@fgcu.edu or by phone at (239) 745-3703 to obtain information regarding documents to bring to the workshop for OSD and DMS certification.

The SBDC welcomes Belinda Bruster, Ph.D. as the keynote speaker for the event. Dr. Bruster is assistant professor in the College of Health Professions and Social Work. In 2006, Dr. Bruster was awarded the Ohio State University Dissertation Award for her study focusing on the strengths of African-American female welfare recipients. In addition, she is a published author and continues her human rights research, including a study this summer with students in Cape Coast, Ghana. The research will focus on human rights, social justice, and orphaned and vulnerable children impacted by HIV/AIDS. The keynote topic is "The Power of Risk Taking is: KEY!"
