Step Ahead Program

Preparing Students for a Successful Academic Life

The Step Ahead program is going into its 13th season (2019) and is anticipating an even more successful year than ever before! The Step Ahead Program boasts an extremely high success rate for its students, and prepares students for the complete college experience they are embarking upon. It is also helpful with the transition the students will be making from high school to a fulltime college workload in the fall semester.

The Step Ahead Program will not only give students additional assistance in a developmental area with the support of tutoring and resources, but it will challenge students, making them more comfortable with the transition to college and giving them the tools to continue on the pathway of success in the future. Students will also be able to network and build relationships with a sample of the great instructors FGCU offers.

All Step Ahead students receive the Step Ahead Scholarship during the summer 2019 term, which is equivalent to six (6) credits' worth of tuition and fees (at the in-state rate).

Undergraduate Admissions invites specially selected incoming first-time-in-college (FTIC) students to participate in the Step Ahead summer bridge program. Students are selected based on their high school GPA and standardized test scores. The Step Ahead Summer Bridge Program is an invite only program. Students granted admission to FGCU through the Step Ahead Program are required to enroll and complete Step Ahead-designated coursework during the summer and fall terms.

Selected students will receive admission into the Step Ahead Program via email and postal mail, and will receive a follow-up email from a Step Ahead Coordinator with action steps required to reserve a seat in the Program. Space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Orientation is mandatory for all students. Step Ahead students must register and attend Eagle View Orientation during one of the following dates:

May 22-23

May 29-30

June 5-6

June 12-13

June 17-18

June 19-20

Registration for Eagle View Orientation will open in early February.

  • Once Eagle View Orientation Registration opens, students will receive an email with the link and steps to register for an orientation session.
  • Students must receive the email in order to register for an EVO program. This email will begin being sent out in February.

Students who have been admitted to the program must complete the online Eagle View Orientation reservation process and pay all orientation fees.

Step Ahead Program participants will attend a session during orientation to allow for introduction to program expectations and to meet faculty and other key staff.

Student participants will be pre-registered for their Step Ahead coursework by an academic advisor in the Exploratory Advising Office. The Step Ahead Coordinator will contact student participants for registration. An advising hold will be placed on the student record with notation of program participation. This hold is used as an indicator of your program participation to other campus members. This hold will not prevent the student from registering for courses or viewing his/her academic transcript.
