Writing Center

Build confidence in your writing

We're here to help students, faculty and staff develop better writing skills. To this end, we offer a variety of free services including one-on-one sessions with expert writing consultants, workshops on a range of writing-related topics and a broad selection of handouts developed specifically for the FGCU community.

One-on-One Sessions

Work directly with one of our writing consultants on the questions and concerns you have about your writing and how you can solve them. Our consultants can help during any stage of the writing process, from when you first get your assignment guidelines and need an idea of where to start to making grammar edits and formatting your citations.

The center is open for half-hour appointments or walk-ins on days classes are in session, subject to the availability of consultants. Final sessions begin 30 minutes before closing. You are limited to two sessions a day.

For Walk-ins:

Walk-in sessions are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can check on tutor availability and wait times by calling 239-590-7141 or checking Facebook and Twitter.

For Appointments:

First-time visitors must create an account through by registering on the login screen. You can cancel an appointment up to 5 minutes before your session; if you forget to cancel, you must wait a month before utilizing the appointment service again — although you can still use the walk-in option.

Our Location

We are located in Library West 202C. Park in Parking Garage 1. When you exit the garage and walk toward the main campus, turn left.  (Toward the right is the Student Union—you will see the clock.)  As you continue on this walkway, you will see a lake and the main Library building.  Continue following the walkway next to the lake and the blue picnic tables, and then veer to the right instead of using the main Library entrance.  You will see “Center for Academic Achievement” and “Writing Center upstairs” on the glass doors.  We are on the second level of this wing of the Library.  (Library West is also accessible from the main Library building.)

If you are looking at the entrance to Starbucks, go around the building to the right.  The doors to Library West will now be on your left.
