Journalism Internships

One consistent way students get jobs is to take part in our robust internship program. For the past several years, our students have contributed professional work to local and national television news stations, radio, newspaper, and online news sites.

We also have popular internships on campus. Students can work at WGCU Public Media on a variety of projects that include news writing, radio, social media, photojournalism, videography, field production and in-studio production. Each year, a student internship crew also broadcasts all the women’s and men’s home basketball games on ESPN3. Students have also completed internships in Washington DC, New York, Chicago and Pittsburgh, as well as overseas as part of the Study Abroad Program. Students who major and minor in Journalism also work on special projects. Some of those projects include the “Student Voting Project,” a collaboration between our News Literacy course and high school students from the Lee County School District.
