The Journalism program offers a variety of ways for students to get their careers started.
Each year, we team up with the Naples Press Club to hold workshops and networking opportunities. The Naples Press Club also awards scholarships to our students. We regularly host events on campus, such as the First Amendment Festival, with lectures, movies and guest speakers. Each semester, we have accomplished, professional journalists work with students on projects both in and out of class. Often, these connections have been long-term as students have gone on to work at local and national media entities after graduation. There are always employers contacting us, looking for students who can start doing high-quality journalism immediately after getting their diplomas. Every year, representatives from various media outlets will stop by class to meet students and form connections. It’s a great way for students to meet employers in the area. Our students are also encouraged to become members in the nation’s premiere journalism organizations, such as the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) and the Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE), and we can help with that.
In 2018, we partnered with IRE to offer four free student memberships. For more information, check out the Society for Professional Journalist page.
