The post-baccalaureate certificate program in Educational Media & Learning is intended primarily for certified PK-12 teachers who wish to become Educational Media Specialists. Those who are not currently certified PK-12 teachers will need additional coursework. It is designed to provide students with the competencies needed to lead a school library media center. collaborate with teachers as instructional partners, offer support as an information specialist, participate in professional communities, and advocate for literacy and technology initiatives to improve teaching and learning.

This fully online certificate is designed to be completed in three semesters. Students may begin the certificate in fall. spring, or summer semester. Coursework may be applied towards the Instructional Design & Ed Tech (IDET) M.A. degree.

Program Admission Requirements
  1. Submission of a FGCU Post-Baccalaureate Non-Degree Application to the Office of Graduate Admissions.
  2. A grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 credits attempted accruing to the undergraduate degree.
  3. Baccalaureate degree or higher from an institution that maintains accreditation by a U.S. Department of Education sanctioned accrediting body (https://www2.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/index.html) or equivalent foreign institution, as documented by official transcripts.
  4. International graduate applicants are required to submit a TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test) or 79 (internet-based test) or IELTS exam (minimum score of 6.5).
Program Progression and Additional Graduation Requirements
  • Students must satisfactorily complete the minimum number of credits specified by the certificate program.
  • A grade of B or higher must be earned in all College of Education graduate courses used as prerequisites and each required course.
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 for all coursework in the program.
