Field Experience & Student Teaching

Here at FGCU, students in the College of Education are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in authentic field-based settings during their program of study.

Programs of study are divided into five blocks. Four of these blocks include a field-based experience to which students need to apply. From early in our teacher preparation program, teacher candidates are immersed in the culture and context of their respective field experience placements.

Students are encouraged to plan for the scheduling of these experiences during their semester appointments with their advisors.

During Blocks 1 and 2 (junior year), teacher candidates complete a field experience in a classroom setting one day a week. In Blocks 4 and 5 (senior year), students will finish their undergraduate careers with student teaching or the Child & Youth Studies experience, depending on their major.
