Dr. Claude Villiers joined FGCU as Assistant Professor in the new Department of Environmental & Civil Engineering in August 2006. He was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 2011.

Dr. Villiers received a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Materials and Construction from The University of Florida in 2004. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor at The City College of The City University of New York. Prior to this position, he was employed by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) as a research engineer. Dr. Villiers also was employed by The University of Florida and worked on several projects sponsored by the FDOT and the Federal Highway Administration.

Dr. Villiers is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society for Engineering Education, National Society of Black Engineers, Transportation Research Board, and Chi-Epsilon National Civil Engineering Honor Society. He also served as an Editorial Board Member for the Florida Education Fund McKnight Journal of Interdisciplinary Research, Transportation Research Board, and American Society of Civil Engineers Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering.

To date, Dr. Villiers has presented at several conferences and published in various article journals such as: The International Journal of Pavement Engineering, McKnight Doctoral Program, and Transportation Research Board.
