Dr. Kenneth S. Sands II joined FGCU as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Construction Management in August of 2019. Dr. Sands received his B.S. and M.S. in Construction Management from Florida International University in 2008 and 2010 respectively. Dr. Sands received his Ph.D. in Environmental Design and Planning from Virginia Tech in 2014. While studying at Florida International University, Dr. Sands worked for Construction Management firms focusing on commercial building construction in healthcare, institutional, infrastructural and residential sectors. While obtaining his Ph.D., Dr. Sands focused on research which focused on construction education, sustainability in the built environment, ethics, and construction safety. Upon completion of his Ph.D., Dr. Sands completed a postdoctoral research appointment in culture-based safety in construction while working as a Project Coordinator for the University of the District of Columbia in their workforce development and lifelong learning program’s construction institute. Dr. Sands served as an Assistant Teaching Professor at Drexel University from 2016 to 2019 before joining the faculty of FGCU. Dr. Sands plans on forwarding his research in the areas of construction risk, education and technological innovation in construction.
