Dr. Mustafa Mujtaba received his doctoral degree in Microbiology and Cell Science
from the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL), after which he conducted two years
of postdoctoral research in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain
Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital (Boston, MA). He is currently teaching and
conducting research in the Biological Sciences Department at Florida Gulf Coast University.
He is an active member of the American Association of Immunologists and the American
Society for Microbiology.

Research and Teaching Interests
Toggle Research and Teaching InterestsTeaching interests include Microbiology, Immunology and Cell Biology courses. Research
interests include development of antimicrobial peptides as well as how various cytokines
and superantigens modulate immune functions. Other research conducted in the lab include
the study of voltage-gated sodium ion channels and their modulation by potential sodium
channel blockers, such as local anesthetic and toxins.
