    Troy V. Jones, Athletic Bands, Music Education, Percussion, Instructor of Music earned both his Bachelor of Music Education Degree and Master of Music Education Degree from Florida State University while maintaining his principal instrument status in percussion. He has studied with notable figures in the field such as Gary Werdesheim, Director of Percussion Studies, at FSU; Jim Bartelt of the United States Air Force Band West; Jim Jacobson, principal Timpanist of the Richmond Symphony and former student of Keiko Abe; Darren Duerden, Director of Percussion Studies of the University of Hawaii; Steve Hemphill, Director of Percussion Studies at Northern Arizona University; and Jazz Studies with Leon Anderson, FSU, (played Drumset on Wynton Marsalis’s Pulitzer Prize Winning CD “Blood on the Fields”).

    Jones has performed with such ensembles as the Charlotte Symphony, the Sarasota Concert Band, the Southerners Brass Band, Salsa Florida, and several large and chamber ensembles at the Florida State University offering opportunities to perform under such notable conductors as Robert Shaw (Atlanta Symphony), Frederick Fennell, John Bourgeois, and James Croft. Jones as a performing artist has performed a diverse repertoire of percussion literature including a premier performance of Ladislav Kubic’s “Concerto for Flute and Percussion Ensemble: The Late Afternoon of a Faun” (1991) recorded on the Col-Legno label.

    Jones previously served as the Director of Bands at Gulf Middle School and Percussion Instructor at Mariner High School. Under his direction, the Percussion Program at Mariner High School has won the FMBC 3A State Percussion title 4 times in the past 6 years, the FFCC Marching Scholastic A Indoor Percussion Championship for the past 3 years and named the WGI Scholastic A Marching Indoor Percussion World Champions in 2006. Jones is highly sought after as an adjudicator, clinician and writer/arranger in both the fields of Concert Band, and Marching/Concert Percussion. He has written for many school percussion programs in the state of Florida and South Carolina. In addition, he is also a percussion contributor/writer for Emperor Press Publications.

    Jones is an active member of the Florida Bandmasters Association, Music Educators National Conference, Florida Music Educators Association, Pi Kappa Lambda (inductee), and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity. Other noteworthy accolades include: Hendry County Teacher of the Year (1998), Clewiston Middle School Teacher of the Year (1997-98), Gulf Middle School Teacher of the Year (2004), Lee County Middle School Band Director of the Year (2004), Lee County Music Educator of the Year (2004), Named Teacher of the Year by the United Arts Council (2004) and nominated (2006) for “Who’s Who Among American Teachers”.
