Join the Eagle View Orientation Team

The Parent Crew serves as a resource for parents and family members of incoming students and is responsible for the general operation of the parent and family orientation program. The employment period for this position is from November 2021 through July 2022.

 

Minimum Requirements:

• Have a cumulative GPA of 2.50.
• Be on good standing with Florida Gulf Coast University.

Responsibilities:

• Attend and participate in all weekly Parent Crew training. Trainings will begin the first week of the semester.
• Attend and participate in monthly workshops. These workshops typically happen one Saturday a month.
• Assist with the preparation of all orientation programs.
• Assist with the operation of Parent and Family Orientation.
• Act as the professional liaison between FGCU and parent and families.
• Other duties as assigned.

Other Information:

• Parent Crew members must successfully complete a training course in the spring semester to be eligible for summer employment.
• Attendance is required for all trainings, workshops, retreats, and orientation sessions.
• Parent Crew members are permitted to take summer courses. Due to the time commitment of the Parent Leader position, taking classes during the summer session cannot interfere with any aspect of the orientation program or training and must be approved by Eagle View Orientation staff.

Admin Crew members are responsible for managing the "behind the scenes" of orientation programs, as well as the organization and distribution of program materials. The employment period for this position is from November 2021 through July 2022.

Responsibilities:

• Attend and participate in all monthly or bi-weekly Administrative Crew trainings. Trainings will begin the first week of the spring semester.
• Attend and participate in monthly workshops. These workshops typically happen one Saturday a month.
• Support the Program Assistant with the administrative management of the EVO programs. This includes tasks completed behind the scenes such as folder and bag stuffing, name tags, and the organization math placement reports.
• Act as a resource and support person for students, family members and guests who participate in Eagle View Orientation programs.
• Manage the McTarnaghan Hall front desk by assisting students and family members via phone, email,  and in-person conversations.
• Assist with inventory, transportation, storage, luggage, and restocking of program material during programs, as needed during EVO programs.
• Assist with the operation of program check-in.

SPARK leaders assist First Time in College (FTIC) students transitioning to Florida Gulf Coast University. Starting in the admissions process, to orientation, and throughout the duration of a student's first year. The SPARK Mentor position encompasses both the peer mentor and orientation leader role. The employment period for this position is from November 2021 through May 2023.

 

Minimum Requirements:

• Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5
• Be on good standing with Florida Gulf Coast University

Responsibilities:

• Attend and participate in all weekly SPARK Mentor trainings. Trainings will begin the first week of the spring semester.
• Attend and participate in monthly workshops. These workshops typically happen one Saturday a month.
• SPARK peer mentorship includes handling a caseload of incoming students, organizing and executing meet-ups, conducting 1:1s with students, tracking admission goals for Class of 2026, etc.
• During the summer, work with and facilitate small and large groups of students and parents during Eagle View Orientation programs.
• Assist students in becoming acquainted with the University and surrounding area of Southwest Florida. This includes discussing life at FGCU, understanding and teaching academic requirements, helping build class schedules, and aiding students in registering for classes.
• Participate in the administrative tasks necessary for program operation (check-in, material distribution, bag stuffing, etc..).
• Plan, execute, and attend Eagles in 26 programming throughout Fall 2022 and Spring 2023

Other Information:

• SPARK Mentors must successfully complete a training course in the spring semester to be eligible for summer employment.
• Attendance is required for all trainings, workshops, retreats, and orientation sessions.
• SPARK Mentors are not permitted to take summer courses. Due to the time commitment needed to fill this role, class and other weekday employments may not be held.
• SPARK Mentors must live on campus during the summer period of employment. Students in this role must be in the residence halls the night before and during the orientation programs.
• SPARK Mentors must be caring and knowledgeable, act as a representative of FGCU, advise and support new students, and be a friendly face to the Class of 2026!
