Conflict Resolution and COVID-19

We understand that in times of crisis, stress and conflict increase, students may need additional support and assistance in resolving problems. FGCU has a wide array of resources to assist you. The Ombuds Office can help with problem solving and conflict resolution. We are available to talk about concerns on a confidential basis (with certain exceptions including risk of immediate harm to yourself or others and Title IX issues).

If you are unsure of who to talk to about your concern, the Ombuds will guide you to the correct resource. If you have tried raising the issue with an individual in a department or a professor and have not been successful in resolving the issue, the Ombuds can suggest strategies and options for you. We can explain policies, facilitate discussions, provide conflict coaching and mediate.

If you have an issue with a department, try contacting your designated contact or the director of the department for assistance. The FGCU directory has contact information for every employee. Although many employees are working remotely, you can send an email or leave a voicemail and the appropriate person will contact you.

If you have an academic concern, try resolving the concern with your professor. If you are unable to resolve the concern with your professor, you can contact the department chair. The next level is the dean of the college. The final step is the Provost.

If you are unable to resolve your concern informally by using FGCU resources, the Ombuds Office or the Care Team, FGCU has established a Covid-19 Hearing Panel to address your concern or complaint.
