Community-Engaged Scholarship

In filling out the Community-Engaged Scholarship form, Community Organizations/Agencies can provide necessary information regarding their organization, project, and research needs that will allow SISR to connect them with faculty partners.

In filling out the Community-Engaged Scholarship Form for Faculty, faculty can provide necessary information regarding their research and interests in community embedded scholarship. This will allow SISR to connect you with potential community partners.

This program supports faculty, students, and community partners in joint research and service opportunities focusing on state and region-wide advancement efforts. Projects tend to focus on Southwest Florida and the Caribbean region and explore the impact of change or disturbance, or document how communities respond to transitionary events. These projects include meaningful and  sustainable service initiatives that enable participating faculty and students to help the natural and human communities in these locations. Gateways: International Journal of Community Research and Engagement
Concerned with the practice and processes of community engagement: with ideas as to what constitutes engagement between universities and communities; with the theories and policies which enable community engagement; and with the possibilities for sustainable collaborations and outcomes.

International Journal of Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement
The IJRSLCE is a peer-reviewed online journal dedicated to the publication of high-quality research focused on service-learning, campus-community engagement, and the promotion of active and effective citizenship through education.

Journal of Community Engagement and Higher Education (Indiana State University)
The Journal of Community Engagement and Higher Education is an on-line, refereed journal concerned with exploring community engagement and community-based learning perspective, research, and practice. It publishes accounts of a range of research focusing on practical and theoretical insights and understanding, in higher education and across the disciplines and professions. There is a focus on case studies emphasizing community engagement and engaged learning practices, methodology, and pedagogy. The journal aims to establish and maintain a review of the literature of research and practice. It also provides a forum for dialogue on the methodological and epistemological issues, enabling different approaches to be subjected to critical reflection and analysis.

Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement
Peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal to advance theory and practice related to all forms of outreach and engagement between higher education institutions and communities.

Journal of Public Scholarship in Higher Education
An academic peer-reviewed journal with a focus on community/civic engagement. JPSHE aims to advance the status and prospects for publicly engaged teaching and research in the academy by showcasing the new disciplinary and/or pedagogical knowledge generated by engagement with the community. JPSHE welcomes diverse manuscripts, from empirically-based examinations to critical reflection pieces, theoretical investigations, commentaries, case studies, and pedagogical and research designs. All submissions must identify implications for the growth and viability of public scholarship in the academy.

Journal of Community Engagement and Scholarship
Peer-reviewed journal published twice a year, print and online. Manuscripts accepted from all academic disciplines and all methodologies that advance the scholarship of engagement. Now in its fifth year, the journal is funded in part by the Engagement Scholarship Consortium (formerly National Outreach Scholarship Conference).

PRISM: A Journal of Regional Engagement
A new journal devoted to promoting a culture of engagement between the university and region through the creation, application, and integration of knowledge. PRISM is multi-disciplinary, publishing quality, peer-reviewed research articles, case studies and applied research articles, and reflections across the full range of disciplinary perspectives.

Public: A Journal of Imagining America
Public is a peer-reviewed, multimedia e-journal focused on humanities, arts, and design in public life. The journal includes performance, literature, design, sound, historical representation, video, photography, interactive media, and texts are integrated with other types of knowledge to animate and deepen engagement with civic life. We encourage public discussion and resource sharing through online and new media, including a multimedia interface to a growing archive of issues and submissions. Public connects disciplines such as the arts in economic development, humanities and social justice, and design and environmental stewardship, and often highlights more than one perspective on its subjects through collaboration with people across traditional divisions of knowledge and from multiple contexts (educational, artistic, business, governmental, neighborhood-based.) Public aspires to connect what we can imagine with what we can do. We are interested in projects, pedagogies, resources, and ideas that reflect rich engagements among diverse participants, organizations, disciplines, and sectors.

For Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate Journal of Service Learning and Community-Based Research
A new, refereed, multidisciplinary, online undergraduate journal that will advance knowledge in new scholarly arenas by presenting intellectual and reflective work by undergraduates. The Undergraduate Journal of Service Learning and Community-Based Research adds to the increasing number of scholarly journals that invite undergraduates to pursue their own intellectual projects. We seek undergraduate contributions to the burgeoning academic conversation on service learning and community-based research.
