FGCU Athletics continued to build momentum both competitively and academically in 2025-26, highlighted by championship performances, postseason success and one of the strongest academic years in department history.
For the second year in a row, FGCU took home the Sherman Day Trophy as the Atlantic Sun Conference’s top women’s athletic program. According to the ASUN, this trophy honors an entire department’s commitment to empowering female student-athletes and fostering a culture of championship-level performance. The conference also inducted women’s basketball legend Whitney Knight into the ASUN Hall of Fame.
Fans Rally ’Round Eagles
Night at the Nest, the premier fundraising event for FGCU Athletics, generated nearly $1.5 million in gross revenue. Nearly $1 million was raised directly from the event Dec. 5, while more than $500,000 was added to the total through the FGCU Foundation matching-gift campaign. This year’s event highlighted efforts to develop a comprehensive nutrition program to fuel FGCU student-athletes.
Outstanding Eagles
Emma Svensson (swimming and diving, 2011-15), Jordi Vives (tennis, 2012-15), Ryan Hopkins (basketball, 2002-05), Chelsea Zgrabik (softball, 2011-14) and Chelsea Lyles (basketball/volleyball, 2008-10) were inducted into the FGCU Athletics Hall of Fame in February.
Invests in Enhanced Training
Arthrex made a $1 million, 10-year gift to FGCU Athletics to support the athletic training department, providing educational and professional development opportunities for sports medicine staff and interested student-athletes.
Scholar-Athletes Earn Academic Honors
Olivia Black (softball), Leonie Wulfers (women’s golf) and Erika Zschuppe (women’s soccer) were named Atlantic Sun Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Year for their respective sports. Zschuppe also earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-America First Team honors, becoming just the fourth Eagle to earn the first team recognition. Black and C.J. Smith (men’s tennis) were also named to the Allstate NACDA Spring Good Works Team, as the first two Eagle student-athletes to ever earn the prestigious honor. The award recognizes student-athletes’ volunteerism and civic engagement in addition to their accomplishments in competition and in the classroom.
Men’s Golf Achieved Best Season Ever
The men’s golf team made program history in April, winning its first ASUN Championship and punching a ticket to the 2026 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship Regionals. They captured the ASUN title in dominant fashion at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Georgia, closing 11 strokes clear of second-place Stetson University. The Eagles finished their best season in program history placing 12th at the NCAA Marana Regional in Arizona.
