The beginning of Marieb Hall South construction marked a significant milestone in
FGCU’s commitment to innovation, interprofessional education and student-centered
learning. The building will enable students from multiple disciplines to train together
in spaces that closely mirror real-world settings where team-based care is crucial State-of-the-art instructional technologies will include an immersive high-resolution
laser projection space where students can step into interactive scenarios such as
disaster response and complex clinical situations, creating a multisensory learning
experience unmatched in traditional classrooms. Simulated operating rooms, intensive care units and pediatric and obstetric suites
will create real-world conditions for experiential learning. Functional apartment-style
simulation environments will be used for practicing physical and occupational therapy.
When completed in 2029, Marieb Hall South will future-proof graduates for fields where
technology is constantly evolving and serve as a model for the future of healthcare
training. FGCU’s $22.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Good Jobs Challenge
is delivering transformative results for our region. FGCU and its partners have distributed
funds to aid supportive services, removing barriers like transportation, childcare
and financial hardship that often prevent underserved residents from completing workforce
training. This project is connecting community members to meaningful, sustainable careers and
proving that equitable access to opportunity strengthens the entire regional workforce.
In 2025, FGCU set an ambitious five-year goal: to get students to travel enough miles
to present their research at professional conferences that it would equal the distance
from Earth to the moon by the year 2030. We are proud to announce that in just two
years: mission accomplished. FGCU’s commitment to expanding access and opportunity resulted in new and enhanced
partnerships with other higher education institutions under the statewide 2+2 initiative,
which provides an affordable, clear pathway for students to earn a bachelor’s degree.
The Destination FGCU program guarantees admission for associate in arts graduates
along with dedicated transfer advisors and application support for scholarship opportunities
for these partners: Student Government, Gulf Scholars, alumni and influential community leaders joined
forces in Tallahassee during FGCU Day at the Capitol Jan. 27. They spent the day informing
elected officials of the university’s legislative priorities that are vital to advancing
its mission to provide innovative and student-centered education. FGCU empowers our community by equipping students and professionals with career-advancing
skills through micro-credentials and digital badges Innovative Education & Partnerships hosted FGCU’s third annual Digital Badge Summit
in a virtual, two-day format titled InspireEd Dialogues: A Micro-Credentials & Skills
Innovation Forum. It attracted 122 attendees nationwide with 14 sessions focusing
on research, real-world case studies and actionable strategies that move micro-credentials
from concept to measurable impact. As part of its mission to equip students, educators, professionals and the community
with the knowledge and skills to thrive in an AI-driven world, the U.A. Whitaker College
of Engineering hosted its first AI Day on campus. Dendritic: A Human-Centered AI and
Data Science Institute partnered with the Lucas Center for Faculty Development to
launch a new student-faculty collaboration model to redesign assignments for the AI
era; with Marieb College to develop an AI conversational agent for mental health training;
and with The Water School to support a water-quality project through dashboard development
and data analysis. Dendritic also represented FGCU nationally at the AI2 Summit, presenting
on teaching and governance with AI.
