Harmon Joins FGCU Hoops

New Era, New Energy Leads Eagles

FGCU women’s basketball enters a new chapter with Raina Harmon, former assistant coach at the University of Iowa, stepping in as head coach. Harmon brings a championship pedigree, having helped lead Iowa to eight NCAA tournament appearances, five Big Ten titles and back-to-back national championship games. She also coached several WNBA draft picks and the 2024 AP & Naismith Player of the Year.

“It’s a great day for FGCU,” said Athletics Director Colin Hargis. “Harmon’s energy and commitment to student-athletes will drive continued success.”

Harmon called the position “one of the best jobs in the country” and expressed excitement about building on FGCU’s legacy of excellence. She emphasized her dedication to developing players both on and off the court and connecting with the FGCU community.

Before Iowa, Harmon coached at Michigan and Central Michigan, where she helped lead the Chippewas to the NCAA tournament.

FGCU fans can expect a dynamic new era of women’s basketball, led by a coach who knows how to win — and how to inspire.
