Prof Bugarin is a faculty in the Department of Chemistry and Physics at Florida Gulf
Coast University. In spring 2018, he was recognized with the President’s Award for
Excellence in Teaching- a university wide award. In addition, he has published 43
refereed publications, with 41 peer-reviewed articles and 2 book chapters, papers
which lay the foundation for his research interests. He is proud to note that several
awards have recognized students trained in his group, including the Outstanding Undergraduate
research award to Kana White in 2014, Brian LaPosa in 2015, Alena Trinidad in 2017,
and Octavio Miranda in 2018. Likewise, Enrique Barragan (Hispanic/Male) won third
place at a regional graduate research presentation. He is also happy to note that
Dr. Siddappa Patil, a postdoctoral associate in his group, is now a Professor at Jain
University, India. Noteworthy to mention, his undergraduate student Bruno Arce received
the Outstanding Undergraduate teaching award in 2015. Furthermore, his research group,
here at FGCU, includes four talented undergraduate students. For instance, one (Abby
Lewis) has already published two manuscripts; one in the J. Mol. Structure and the
other in Polyhedron. Also, Amy Hoagland work was also accepted for publication in
Fut. Med Chem. Important to note that a visitor scholar joined my research group this
past July, Mr. Mario Heras (graduate student from Mexico). So, we are anticipating
to keep research productivity high, while engaging undergraduate and graduate students.

Research and Teaching Interests
Toggle Research and Teaching InterestsResearch in the Bugarin group includes the development of sustainable and straightforward
organic transformations. Transformations that are part of sophomore organic chemistry.
Many of the groups discoveries are relevant and used to increase the students understanding
of many basic synthetic reactions and mechanism.
