Zohrabian, Armineh (MS, PhD)

Program Director and Associate Professor, Health Sciences
Department of Health Sciences

Dr. Armineh Zohrabian received her doctorate in applied economics from Auburn University and specialized in health economics during her Steven M. Teutsch Prevention Effectiveness Fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Her work as the technical monitor for the U.S. Burden of Disease Study, a collaboration between the CDC and Harvard University, and as a senior health economist at the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care shaped her as an impact-driven, multidisciplinary scholar. For example, when Ontario considered purchasing a more expensive nasal spray influenza vaccine, she led a research study across agencies to evaluate its potential to increase vaccination rates and to estimate its impact on Ontario’s budget.

In 2015, Dr. Zohrabian brought her real-world experiences to the academic world, first at the University of Missouri and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Her dedication to student education and growth was recognized when she was awarded the 2020 Outstanding Faculty Award from the University of Missouri’s Health Management and Informatics Student Association.

Dr. Zohrabian’s expertise is sought internationally. In 2005, The Lancet invited her to publish a review of an obesity report from the UK’s National Health Service’s (NHS) R&D Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme. These reports directly influence decision-making bodies in the UK. In 2020, she was invited to teach a workshop at the Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), one of Brazil’s leading medical schools, and speak at the International Symposium on Longevity and Functionality on applying behavioral economics for healthy aging.
