Kara stated teaching at FGCU after a 25-year career in journalism and public relations. She worked as a reporter for The News-Press in Fort Myers before transitioning to public relations as the Public Information Officer for the Fort Myers Police Department. She also worked as an account manager and media relations coordinator at Priority Marketing of Southwest Florida, where she coordinated a variety of public relations projects for businesses, government agencies and nonprofit organizations.
Kara has earned both the Accredited in Public Relations (APR) and Certified Public Relations Counselor (CPRC) credentials. She’s an active member of the leadership team of the Southwest Florida Chapter of the Florida Public Relations. She’s served 10 consecutive years as credentialing chair/co-chair of the credentialing team, assisting 30+ public relations professionals in earning their APR and CPRC honors.
