Collins, Michael (Ph.D.)
Dr. Michael Collins joined the faculty in the School of Resort & Hospitality Management, within the Lutgert College of Business at Florida Gulf Coast University, in the fall of 2017 bringing with him more than 35-years of hospitality industry, teaching, and research experience. Professor Collins earned a Ph.D. in Hospitality Management from The Ohio State University (2007); a Master of Science in Strategic Leadership from the University of Charleston [West Virginia] (2002); and a Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University (1982).
Dr. Collins previously served as the Chair of the Hospitality Management Department at the University of San Francisco and for eight (8) years on the faculty within the Wall College of Business Administration at Coastal Carolina University. Prior to his career in higher education, Dr. Collins spent 25-years in the hotel industry managing upper-upscale hotels and resorts for Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Wyndham International in locations that included Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Salt Lake City, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Research interests include: corporate social responsibility; hospitality (hotel) pricing strategies; service quality; and experiential learning (internships). Dr. Collins is also the author of two academic textbooks, including Make It Count! Getting the Most from a Hospitality Internship (2017)and Delivering the Guest Experience: Successful Hotel, Lodging & Resort Management (forthcoming), both published by Kendall Hunt Publishing, Dubuque, Iowa.
