Dr. Tom Felke serves as a Professor and the BSW Program Director in the Department of Social Work. He has previously served as Associate Dean for Academics in the Marieb College of Health & Human Services and as Chair of the Department of Social Work. He is also the Founding Director of the Shady Rest Institute on Positive Aging. Dr. Felke received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Elementary and Special Education from Providence College. Afterward, he completed coursework and research assistantships at New York University and Yale University. He completed his graduate education at the University of Connecticut (UConn) School of Social Work, where he earned a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree with concentrations in administration, policy, and international issues. He also attended UConn to complete his Doctorate in Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Social Work, conducting his dissertation research in Armenia with ethnic Armenian refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan.

Dr. Felke worked previously at Catholic Charities of Southern Connecticut, the Connecticut Department of Social Services, and the Connecticut state university system. The focus of his teaching and research is on macro social work issues including but not limited to the needs of seniors, affordable housing, and food insecurity. He routinely conducts spatial analyses on these and other topics using geographic information systems (GIS) technologies. He is active as a member of several boards and committees in Southwest Florida as well as for national social work organizations.
