Timothy Yontz, Director of Bands for the Bower School of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida, conducts the Wind Orchestra, serves as Head of Instrumental Studies, and teaches courses in conducting and music education. Before joining the faculty at FGCU, Dr. Yontz served as Director of Music Education and Symphonic Band conductor at Wheaton College in Illinois for eleven years, Associate Director of Bands at the University of Nebraska at Omaha for six years, and Director of Bands and Coordinator of Fine Arts in Wisconsin and Indiana public schools for seventeen years. While at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, he was also Music Director of the Nebraska Wind Symphony, Omaha’s Community Concert Band. Dr. Yontz holds a Ph.D. in Administration, Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nebraska, Master of Music from Butler University, and Bachelor of Music Education from Indiana University. He is a member of the College Band Directors National Association, National Association for Music Education, Phi Beta Mu International School Bandmaster Fraternity, and is a recipient of the National Band Association’s “Citation of Excellence.” Dr. Yontz is an active guest conductor, clinician, and festival adjudicator.
