5 things to know: employee housing

December 01, 2025

FGCU’s employee housing project was unanimously approved by the Florida Board of Governors (BOG) on Nov. 6, making the university the first in the State University System of Florida (SUS) to launch a plan like this. Here are five things to know about Phase 1 of the project:

1. The housing site is adjacent to West Lake Village and Gulf Coast Town Center.

2. Phase 1 will include 74 cottage-style homes and townhomes.

3. Land development began Nov. 17, and construction is expected to begin February 2026.

4. The housing complex is named Eagle View Village, and the main road is named Green and Blue Way.

5. The first move-ins are scheduled for January 2027, and the remaining units will be made available later in the summer, with full occupancy expected by July 2027. Existing staff and faculty will have an opportunity to lease a limited number of units beginning January 2027.

FGCU residential student housing, West Lake Village, is to the east of the site. Multiple waterways and ponds are visible, along with a clear blue sky.

It shows a proposed residential community with rows of townhomes and cottage-style homes, landscaped green spaces, and tree-lined streets surrounding a large central water feature. Additional housing areas and structures are illustrated in lighter tones to indicate future development.
