FGCU breaks ground on Marieb Hall South
May 12, 2026
FGCU is expanding its health sciences program with the construction of Academic Building 10 to prepare for the next generation of healthcare professionals. Named Marieb Hall South, the facility will become the largest academic building on campus, and it will serve as an extension of the Marieb College of Health & Human Services.

Faculty and staff from the Marieb College of Health & Human Services celebrate the groundbreaking of Academic Building 10.
Slated to open its doors to students in spring 2029, the 158,040-square-foot, state-of-the-art academic facility will house transformational initiatives like the Shady Rest Institute on Positive Aging and the Golisano Intellectual & Developmental Disability Initiative (GIDDI), enabling interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation and enhanced research capabilities. Student Health Services and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) will also be housed under the same roof. This will strengthen coordination among student care teams to provide the best possible support for students.
The building is thoughtfully designed, with each floor dedicated to specific academic programs, research initiatives and student support services. This includes:
Floor 1: Dining and coffee options, CAPS, Student Health Services, GIDDI, Marieb’s social work and counseling programs and state-of-the-art research spaces.
Floor 2: A 32,000-square-foot interprofessional simulation center designed to advance training capabilities through immersive, real-world scenarios.
Floor 3: Specialized classroom and lab space, offering growth opportunities for programs such as nursing and physician assistant studies.
Floor 4: Dedicated space for the Shady Rest Institute on Positive Aging.
Preparation for construction of the building begins in May with fencing of the area, and construction begins in August.
