Florida Teacher Certification Examinations

The Florida Teacher Certification Examinations, or FTCE, are a set of tests developed with the purpose of certifying that all teacher candidates demonstrate the necessary content and pedagogical knowledge to effectively educate students in the State of Florida.

The Florida Educational Leadership Examination, or FELE, is a test developed to ensure that all school administrator candidates demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively lead in Florida’s schools.

We recommend arriving at least fifteen minutes before your appointment time.

You need to bring an acceptable and not-expired primary form of government-issued photo identification with signature, such as:

  • Government-issued driver's license.
  • A valid passport (Passport must be in Roman characters).
  • Official national/state/country-issued identification card with photo and signature.
  • Military ID.

  • Military ID for spouses and dependents.

  • U.S. Dept. of State Driver's License

  • U.S. Learner's Permit (plastic card only with photo and signature)

  • Passport cards.
  • Tribal identification card.
  • Alien Registration Card (green card, permanent resident, visa).

  • Naturalization card or Certificate of Citizenship.

Examples of unacceptable forms of identification:

  • Expired IDs from list above.
  • Identification with signature only.
  • School identification.

  • Temporary or paper driver’s license.
  • Credit or debit or ATM card without photo or signature.
  • Work identification or badge.
  • Gym or club membership.

The secondary identification can be another form of identification listed above or one that has either a photo or a signature, such as:

  • U.S. Social security card.
  • Credit or debit or ATM card (not expired with photo and signature).
  • Any form of ID on the Primary list. 

Please note the following:

Your middle initial in your account when you registered for a test must match the middle name or initial on your ID.

If you have a hyphenated last name, one of the following must be true of your name as it appears in your account on this website and on your ID: either both instances must use the complete hyphenated name, or, if one instance only uses one last name, it must be the second last name from the full hyphenated version

If the name on your identification differs from the name provided during registration, you must bring official, legal documentation of the name change. A photocopy will not be accepted.

Examples of this documentation include:

  • Marriage certificate
  • Divorce decree
  • Certificate of naturalization
  • Court order for a name change

Additional Information

The Office of Postsecondary Assessment at the Florida Department of Education is responsible for all aspects of the FTCE and FELE, including developing, administering, scoring, and reporting the results.

The Department develops and administers the FTCE and FELE examinations in partnership with its contractor, Pearson. Beginning in October 2007, Pearson assumed responsibility for the FTCE/FELE test administration, scoring, and reporting activities.

What if I am a Florida Gulf Coast University student?

If you are an FGCU undergraduate Education major, you must request your scores be sent to Florida Gulf Coast University during the registration process.
