College of Education named national hub for education law
November 03, 2025
FGCU’s College of Education is now home to the Education Law Association and its peer-reviewed publication, “The Journal of Education Finance and Law.” Dr. Jennifer Sughrue, interim chair for the Department of Leadership, Counseling & Human Development at the College of Education, and Dr. F. King Alexander, educational leadership professor at the College of Education, will serve as editors-in-chief of the journal.

University leadership, members of the Education Law Association and FGCU graduate students celebrate the new partnership.
Faculty, students and education partners will engage in projects that connect legal frameworks to classroom practice and policymaking. Graduate and doctoral students will also gain direct experience in publishing, research and policy development. This will provide them the opportunity to link their studies to meaningful impact in schools and communities both locally and nationally.
The collaboration brings national attention to FGCU as a center for research, practice and dialogue focused on how education law, finance and policy influence learning across the preschool-through-graduate school systems. This partnership also reflects the College of Education’s continued growth and commitment to innovation, achievement and community engagement while expanding FGCU’s national footprint in education leadership and policy.
