Military & Veteran Success: An academic resource for students
November 05, 2024
As FGCU continues to expand excellence in academic success, it’s important for faculty and staff to be aware of all the resources available to support students. One of those resources is the Office of Military & Veteran Success (MVS).
Located on the first floor of the Student and Community Counseling Center, MVS serves as a hub for academic resources for military-connected students at FGCU. MVS has an understanding of veteran specific issues that impact performance and academic success and, in turn, provides resources and guidance for serving the unique educational needs of veterans.
Some of the services provided at MVS include referrals to campus resources, such as tutoring, adaptive services, TRIO, counseling and psychological services, service-learning opportunities and the opportunity for involvement with Student Veterans of America. It's a space that seeks to empower students academically.
“The Military & Veteran Success office is an inclusive and welcoming environment,” said Sylvia Mitchell, interim director of Military & Veteran Success - VA Education Benefits. “MVS is invested in helping all military-connected students by providing information on campus resources, assisting with VA education benefits, peer-to-peer guidance, community and camaraderie.”
Students can stop by the MVS office to use the space as a study area, connect with other students, grab school supplies or simply take a break.
For more information, contact MVS by email at mvs@fgcu.edu, call 239-590-1776 or visit the office.
The lounge area at the Military & Veteran Success office offers students a space to connect with other military-connected students.
