Practice Standards & Policies

Who provides services?

Advanced level graduate-student interns in clinical mental health and school counseling – the next generation of practitioners – provide care under the supervision of licensed professionals and faculty.

Counselors provide personalized, goal-oriented counseling designed to promote growth, help empower personal and professional success and improve overall quality of life. This, in turn, allows the counselors to gain invaluable practical experience that will enable them to become successful, independent practitioners.

Check in | When you arrive

  • You will check in and complete any forms that you did not complete prior to arrival.
  • If you need a parking pass, it will be provided and you will need to place it on your car’s dashboard.
  • After parking, return to the waiting room and your counselor will come out shortly to greet you.

What to expect | First session

The initial appointment will primarily focus on completing or reviewing paperwork and questionnaires. There will be some forms to sign, including an informed consent. Assessment forms will help your counselor judge how best to assist you in the counseling process.

Forms can be completed prior to the first appointment. To complete them:

  1. Select the Services link
  2. Download and complete the hyperlinked (underlined) forms
  3. Bring them with you to the first appointment (or download them)

Photo of group of studentsThe first few sessions are considered assessment sessions. As a training facility, our counselors are able to provide a level of care consistent with an outpatient clinic (once-a-week sessions, no crisis or after-hours care). If the counselor or supervisor determines that the center cannot provide you with the quality of care you require, you will be provided appropriate local agencies that can meet your needs.
