Program Accreditation

Program Admission Requirements

•Complete an application, including all required supporting documents,and submit the fee through NursingCAS.
•Provide official transcript(s) for all colleges and universities attended,including a bachelor’s degree transcript from a nursing programaccredited by a U.S. Department of Education sanctioned accreditingbody (https://www.ed.gov/laws-and-policy/higher-education-laws-and-policy/college-accreditation) or equivalent foreign institution.
•Show evidence of a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale forthe last sixty (60) hours of the baccalaureate degree.
•Provide evidence that the following courses have been completed at theundergraduate level with a grade of C or better, prior to admission:Statistics, Health Assessment, and Pathophysiology.
•Provide evidence of current and unrestricted registered nurse’s license,or eligibility for RN licensure in Florida.
•Provide evidence of a minimum of one-year current practice experienceas a registered nurse.
•Submit a current resume.
•Submit a statement of career goals.
•For applicants who have attended, but not completed another MSNprogram, provide a letter of standing from the director or dean of theschool of nursing (or designee) that addresses the following:Performance in the prior program, potential for success in the priorgraduate program, interpersonal communication skills, and otherinformation as determined by the dean or director.
•Applicants must also provide a waiver granting the Graduate Admissionand Progression Committee permission to contact the program(s)attended to verify information.
•International students must demonstrate English language proficiencyin accordance with University regulation.
Program Progression and Additional Graduation Requirements
•Students in the program must meet specific progression, clinical, andgraduation requirements. See Nurse Leadership & Mgt. ProgramGuidebook, General Graduate Academic Policies, and FGCUGraduation Requirements.
•Submit an application for graduation by the semester deadline listed inthe FGCU Academic Calendar.
•Students must register for a minimum of one credit during the semesterin which they apply for graduation.
•Earn a minimum of 34 credits with a minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
•Satisfactory completion of the culminating leadership project during thepracticum experience.
•Satisfactory completion of a Professional Portfolio.

Getting started with the Course Schedule Search

Search for program courses by using the Course Schedule Search utility.

Go to the Course Schedule Search Web page, then follow these steps:

1. Select an Academic Year from the TERM dropdown (required)
2. Select one or more of the search options to narrow your results (for example, CAMPUS, COLLEGE, DEPARTMENT, LEVEL, PREFIX*, COURSE ATTRIBUTE**). For virtual or web courses, select VIRTUAL in the CAMPUS field.
3. Press Search.

*A course prefix is a three-letter designator for a major division of an academic discipline (for example, ACG for Accounting , BSC for Biological Science, ENC for English Composition). See the Degree Requirements page for a list of courses (with prefix and number) that can be used to fulfill degree requirements.

**A course attribute identifies specific characteristics of courses that can be used in a Degree Evaluation to satisfy a degree requirement. (Course attribute examples are Humanities courses - GEHM and Social Science courses - GESO.)

MSN Program Objectives

Upon successful completion of the Master of Science in Nursing degree, the graduate will:

• Collaborate and communicate with other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality, ethical patient-centered care that meets current standards of best practice.
• Implement health care delivery models and strategies designed for increased safety and quality improvement in health promotion, clinical prevention, and population health.
• Exhibit professional leadership strategies to deliver high-quality, cost-effective patient outcomes.
• Exercise critical thinking to design and implement innovative approaches that are financially viable, culturally connected, evidence-based, and community partnered.

Program Specific Fees

The cost per credit hour is the standard charge at FGCU for graduate credits.  In addition to the tuition charges and standard fees, there is a student fee associated with each Clinical Practice Course (I - VII), and there is also an Equipment fee charged each semester.
