Hearing Preparation

The Student Conduct process is designed to determine responsibility for alleged policy violations while promoting accountability and learning. It provides a fair process for reviewing information, allows students to respond to concerns, and encourages reflection on how choices may affect the student and the University community.

Students have the right to be informed of the allegations and to have an opportunity to respond. This includes the opportunity to review relevant information, share their perspective, and participate in the process consistent with University procedures.

A Student Conduct hearing provides an opportunity to review information related to the alleged violation and share your perspective. The information presented is considered before a determination is made regarding whether a policy violation occurred.

An adjudication outcome is the final determination regarding responsibility for the alleged violation and, when applicable, any assigned sanctions or educational measures. The outcome communicates the decision and any expectations or next steps resulting from the case.

Sanctions are intended to promote accountability, address behavior, and support student learning. Depending on the circumstances, sanctions may include educational, restorative, or administrative measures intended to help the student understand the impact of their actions and make informed choices moving forward.

Your primary role is to provide relevant information, documentation, and details related to the allegation. This helps ensure the individual or body adjudicating the case has the information needed to understand the reported concern and evaluate the allegation through the established Academic Integrity process.

Reporting faculty should expect to present information regarding the allegation and answer questions about the reported incident. Your participation helps clarify the information and documentation submitted with the report; however, you do not serve as the hearing officer or determine the hearing outcome.

The designated hearing officer or hearing panel/body responsible for adjudicating the case determines whether the student is responsible. The decision is based on the information considered through the hearing process rather than being determined solely by the reporting faculty member.

Students are informed of the allegation and provided an opportunity to respond before a decision is made. This allows the student to understand the concern, review relevant information as provided through the process, and share their perspective before responsibility is determined.

The reporting faculty member is informed of the outcome as permitted by University policy. The faculty member does not determine the final hearing decision, hear appeals, approve sanctions, or decide whether the outcome becomes part of the student's record.
