Admissions Clearance Process
- If you mark yes to either of the Conduct Disclosure questions on your FGCU application, you must complete the Admissions Clearance process before your application can move forward.
- Once you are notified that you must complete the process, you need to submit the Admissions Clearance Form.
- You will complete a narrative where you will describe the nature of the incident, the dates and locations, as well as the steps you have taken to resolve the incident and what you have learned since the incident.
- You will attach any documents, such as high school disciplinary records, police reports, court documents, probation/parole completion records, or other documents which provide information about the situation.
- You will attach a Disciplinary Clearance form from each High School, College, and University that you have previously attended. If you were enrolled at FGCU previously, you will also attach a Disciplinary Clearance Form for Returning Students.
- If the situation was traffic or driving related (not including violations that only resulted in a fine, such as parking tickets or minor speeding violations), you must include a copy of your current drivers license as well.
- When we have received all of the necessary information, our office will review the situation and make a recommendation as to your application. You will receive an e-mail explaining our recommendation. We may recommend that:
- you are recommended for admission;
- you are recommended for admission with one or more conditions (such as completing a plagiarism tutorial or a period of conduct probation);
- you are not recommended for admission at this time;
- there is insufficient information to make a recommendation, in which case, we will request more documents from you.
- You have the right to appeal the decision made regarding your Admissions Clearance request by e-mailing AdmissionClearance@fgcu.edu and explaining why you believe the decision was made incorrectly, or providing additional information that was not originally submitted. A committee will review everything you have submitted and make a final recommendation.
Florida Administrative Code 6C-6.001(2) authorizes universities to refuse admission to applicants due to past misconduct. At Florida Gulf Coast University, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Graduate Studies have been delegated the authority to clear students who have had criminal traffic violations and minor academic issues related to a positive response to the conduct question which appears on admission applications. All other positive responses to the conduct questions that appear on the admission applications to any programs at FGCU, must be cleared through the Dean of Students or designee. The Dean of Students reviews all applications disclosing information regarding any violation of the law, including but not limited to, criminal charges, convictions, criminal traffic violations, including a conduct problem at another institution, or pending charges. Decisions are made in the best interest of the University community.

Dean's Certification
Toggle More InfoYou may be required to submit a Dean's Certification document verifying your good standing with the university and disclosing any possible conduct records for a number of reasons including: military service, job applications, graduate school or transfer applications, study abroad, scholarship opportunities or for government security clearance, to name just a few.
When submitting such a document please ensure that you have done the following:
- Signed and dated your certification(s).
- Enclosed a stamped self-addressed envelope for each certification. OR
- If you chose not to provide a stamped envelope, please leave your phone number so we may call and let you know your document has been completed.
- Take any document requiring character to a Professor or Dean of your College and ask them to fill out the evaluation portion of the document first. Please make sure they do not sign the form and are not filing out your dates of attendance, rank in class or if you are in good standing with the University. The Registrar and/or the Dean of Students’ Office are the only school officials that can validate this information.
If the document also requires certification of your academic record, grades, enrollment status or academic standing, please submit the document directly to the Department of Records & Registration. Once they have completed their portion of the document, they will forward it to the Dean of Students' Office automatically. You will be contacted once the process is complete.
Depending on the complexity of the information requested and the time of year, the entire certification process may take up to 15 business days to complete, so please allow sufficient time for completion and transit time if the form is to be mailed to avoid missing any deadlines.
