Students: How to Apply to be an LA

- There are several steps to complete when applying to be an LA.
  - Complete the application online. Student applications are available during the periods below:
    - Summer 2026: March 30 - April 13
    - Fall 2026: April 17 - May 8 (Priority Round); June 19 - July 3 (Second Round contingent on available funding)
    - Spring 2027: TBD
  - Matching & Interviewing Period
    - Potential LAs are matched with faculty/courses
    - Faculty may contact potential LA for an interview
  - Complete the FGCU application (information sent via email once a match is confirmed)
  - Complete all hiring components through FGCU Human Recources (HR)
  - Sign up for pedagogy class
  - Attend Orientation (first time LAs)

There is much to discover on the Learning Assistant Alliance website! When you explore this site, you can connect with faculty in your field from different institutions who also teach with LAs. You can see how LAs are used in various class formats, such as large lectures or flipped classrooms. Additionally, you'll find valuable resources for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), including a list of research articles about LA programs. There's also the LASSO tool available, which provides an easy and effective way to measure the impact of your course on students' understanding and attitudes. We highly recommend you take some time to explore these resources!

I've had a very positive experience with the LA program. Having some sort of LA/IA/TA is critical for active learning, especially in large classes. The LA program particularly helps through the pedagogy instruction, the resources in the hiring process, and by providing funding to hire the students.”
