Ramiro Davaro Comas: Familias

This deeply personal series, Familias, depicts families in moments of solitude, work, play, and immense transition, maintaining their physical closeness as they exist through a variety of surreal landscapes. Many of the works are inspired from photographs in news articles, family portraits, and historical photography catalogs. The work contains immigrant families, laborers, and American born workers in the same series bridging the groups and showcasing the many commonalities that they share. The protagonists are painted with happy and hopeful demeanors in an illustrative style that creates accessibility to a wide range of audiences and invites them to rethink the family, the immigrant, and the American worker narrative.
In 2025, Ramiro Davaro Comas was invited to create two murals in the Arts Complex Courtyard in conjunction with his Fjelstul Art Lecture. As part of this exhibition, he will be collaborating with FGCU science students to design and paint murals featuring plants of Southwest Florida on the Arts Complex Courtyard columns.
