FGCU STUDENT ART ENTRY GUIDELINES 2026
(If, after reading through all of the guidelines, you have a question not addressed,
please email asturdiv@fgcu.edu or call 239-590-7199).
GENERAL RULES
All entries must have been created during the time you have been enrolled at FGCU.
You may submit up to six (6) pieces of work.
Each student must acquire and fill out the mandatory submission form associated with
the Student Juried Exhibition and submit the completed form with their work during
the drop-off period. Submission forms can be found in the Wasmer Art Gallery (AC 131).
Please retain your copy of the submission form as work is neither accepted nor returned
without your copy of this form.
All work must have identification written on the back or bottom of the piece AND printed
on a piece of paper and affixed in such a way that it will not fall off at any time.
The information must be printed from a word processing document. Below is the required
information for each piece submitted:
- Your Name
- Title of Work
- Year work was created/completed
- Medium
- Price of work if for sale (Mark ‘NFS’ if it is ‘Not For Sale’)
- Submission Number (found on the NCR submission form, top right corner — this same
number is to be repeated on each piece you submit.)
Whether you are submitting (1) piece or (6) pieces, all of your ‘Exhibition Ready’
artwork submissions and completed paperwork must be brought to the gallery during
the drop-off period at the same time. Multiple submission forms by the same student
will not be accepted.
All entries must be ‘Exhibition Ready’. This means the work is ready to hang or place,
AS IS, on walls or on pedestals. Ask yourself: Can the gallery install the work without
having to figure out how it will be displayed?
FGCU Art Galleries ‘Exhibition Ready’ Hanging Hardware Requirements
Paintings, works in frames, etc., must have D-rings or be wired. If you have a particularly
heavy piece, you are advised to use D-rings. Works submitted that do not adhere to
the instructions for your medium will not be included in the jurying process.
Any unframed works on paper will be hung using mirror clips and plexiglass supplied
by the gallery. However, works on paper that are not framed must be matted with white mat board and backed
with white mat board (foam core will not be accepted).
FGCU Art Galleries Matting Requirements for Works on Paper
ANY 2D WORKS THAT ARE NOT EQUIPPED WITH D-RINGS OR HANGING WIRE MUST BE MATTED AND
BACKED WITH MAT BOARD. THIS INCLUDES PRINTS, PHOTOGRAPHS, DIGITAL PRINTS, POSTERS,
DRAWINGS, PAINTINGS ON PAPER, 2D COLLAGE, ETC.
If your work is matted, but not framed, the exterior dimensions of the matted work
must fit one of the following standard dimensions:
4 x 6" | 5 x 7" | 8 x 10" | 9 x 12" | 11 x 14" | 12 x 16" | 16 x 20" | 20 x 24" |
24 x 30" | 30 x 40"
- Minimum of 2-inch matted border on each side (top, bottom, left, right)
- Borders may be wider than 2 inches
- The overall dimensions of the mat must be whole numbers (e.g., 8" x 10", not 8¼" x
9½")
- The gallery cannot accommodate custom cuts of plexiglass for unframed works
- Mat must be white (colored mats allowed only if work is framed; white preferred)
Matted works on paper must be measured, and the overall dimensions must be written
on the submission form and the identification sheet attached to the work.
