Psychology Faculty Are Committed To Providing Experiential Learning Opportunities and Mentoring Students in Psychology.

Student VolunteersThe Psychology Department has 14 full time Ph.D. faculty members along with 8 adjunct faculty dedicated to student learning. The department serves approximately 800 majors as well as students who minor in Psychology at FGCU. The faculty maintain research interests across the discipline of psychology and are committed to a variety of community service endeavors.  Accordingly, our mission statement is as follows:

The Department of Psychology at Florida Gulf Coast University is dedicated to providing a quality education to Psychology majors, as well as those in the general student body. The Department is committed to scientific approaches to understanding human behavior, emphasizing the social, developmental, cognitive, biological, and clinical foundations of behavior. We are further committed to providing a learning environment that offers students broad opportunities for intellectual growth that prepares students to think critically and develop the communication skills needed to function in a variety of settings. In addition, we offer students an academic background that provides a firm foundation to support application to applied mental health-related graduate programs, Ph.D. programs in psychological sciences and, with proper interdisciplinary coursework, medical, veterinary, or law school. Consistent with the university’s mission, faculty contribute to the professional and scholarly growth of students by offering a rigorous curriculum, the opportunity to participate in independent research, applied community practice, and civic engagement opportunities. The Department values diversity and encourages ethical and social responsibility.
