
Dr. Rottig is Professor of Global Strategic Management and International Business in the Lutgert College of Business and an AI Fellow of the university’s Human-Centered AI and Data Science Institute (DENTRITIC) in the U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Management with emphasis on Global Strategic Management, an MBA in International Business, an undergraduate degree (German Diploma) in Business Administration with triadic emphases on International Economics, Finance, and Marketing, and a Diploma in International Studies.
His research focuses on the institutional and cultural environments of multinational corporations, performance determinants of international mergers and acquisitions, strategy in emerging markets, and global social and ethical organizational issues. He has published extensively in his field and received numerous awards and nominations for his scholarly work from the Academy of International Business, the Academy of Management, and leading publishers in international business and management.
Prof. Rottig is a passionate educator and training professional whose goal is to help students, managers and executives understand the global business environment and how to strategically manage firms in international markets. He has served as an invited international visiting professor and speaker at leading universities across Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East, and he has received numerous international teaching awards. He is the recipient of Florida Gulf Coast University’s Scholarship Excellence Award, Teaching Excellence Award, and Global Engagement Award and so distinguished himself as the first and only faculty member in FGCU's history to receive the institution's highest honors across all three areas of faculty achievement.
Dr. Rottig is actively engaged in the academic community, having served as editor, associate editor, senior editor, editorial review board member, and active reviewer for numerous reputable journals and academic conferences, recognition of which is evidenced by several best reviewer and academic service awards. He has held various executive board positions and served as chairman of the Academy of International Business Southeast USA (AIB-SE) Chapter, one of the world's largest and most active regional chapters and currently serves as AIB-SE’s dean of fellows.
Dr. Rottig holds professional certifications including the Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP) credential from NASBITE International, IBM Blockchain Practitioner-Instructor and Enterprise Design Thinking certifications, and has completed AI programs from MIT Sloan School of Management in partnership with MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), Microsoft's Generative AI for Teaching bootcamp, and Google's AI and Business Advising series through the Small Business Administration.
Prior to academia, he worked for Merrill Lynch (now Merrill, a Bank of America company) in the United States and ING Group in Europe. He is an invited member of several academic honor societies, including The International Honor Society of Beta Gamma Sigma, The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, and Golden Key International Honour Society. Born and raised in Germany and naturalized as a United States citizen, he has visited over 80 countries across six continents, bringing a truly global perspective to his work.
