Our Mission

The mission of Staff Advisory Council (SAC), as a collegial governance body, is to facilitate effective communication among the Staff, Students, Faculty, Administration, and Community from a Staff perspective. As a proactive partner in the University’s Shared Governance processes, SAC provides a forum that directly addresses the issues and concerns of the Staff at Florida Gulf Coast University, and strives to ensure a campus climate that supports Staff growth and recognition, and reflects a strong, enthusiastic, and positive quality work life.

Committees

In an effort to support FGCU staff, SAC representatives serve on and participate in University committees. In addition, SAC representatives serve on committees organized by SAC. Here is the list of committees that SAC serves on.

SAC Committees

Elections: This committee oversees the annual SAC elections each spring and hosts the Annual SAC Assembly.

Employee Recognition: This committee is responsible for the Finest of the Flock awards, SAC scholarship, bookstore awards, and selecting the Outstanding Staff awards.

Policies: This committee reviews new policies and advises SAC on personnel-related concerns and interests.

Professional Development: This committee reviews and approves PDP applications throughout the year and hosts campus-wide professional development workshops.

Special Events: This committee develops and coordinates employee events across campus to enhance staff familiarity with the Staff Advisory Council and to plan Soar Into Spring.

Get Involved with SAC – Supporting FGCU Staff Together!

Dear FGCU Staff,

The Staff Advisory Council (SAC) is committed to advocating for and supporting FGCU staff, and we invite you to connect with us in meaningful ways. Visit our website and follow us on LinkedIn to stay updated on initiatives and opportunities to engage.

Here’s a summary of how you can get involved:

All employees can sign up to participate in professional and personal development opportunities as part of our 15th annual Soar into Spring events, March 2-6.

Nominate a colleague for Finest of the Flock, which recognizes staff members who go above and beyond. You can also submit a Staff Shoutout, a new, quick way to recognize a staff member who made your day and exemplified FGCU’s core values in a special way.

Celebrate outstanding staff by submitting a nomination for the Outstanding Staff Award and the Gabor Staff Champion Award, which will be presented at the Celebration of Excellence ceremony April 22.

Attend the SAC Annual Assembly from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. April 21 in Margaret Antonier Hall (Academic Building 9), Room 138, to hear important SAC updates, connect with fellow staff and participate in our election kick-off.

Celebrate Outstanding Staff – Submit Nominations by April 1

Dear FGCU Faculty and Staff,

Help us recognize FGCU’s dedicated staff by submitting a nomination for the Outstanding Staff Award. All FGCU employees – faculty and staff – are invited to nominate staff who go above and beyond in their service to the university and community.

The deadline to submit nominations is April 1. Application, eligibility requirements, and nomination procedures can be found online.

Award categories are:

Administrative & Professional (A&P) Staff

Support Personnel (SP) Staff

Other Professional Services (OPS) Staff

Gabor Staff Champion (Assistant director level and above)

Dear FGCU Staff,

The Staff Advisory Council (SAC) is now accepting nominations for new representatives for the upcoming 2026-28 term (June 1, 2026, to May 31, 2028). The deadline to submit nominations is 5 p.m. April 13.

Consider nominating yourself or a fellow staff member who would be an excellent advocate for FGCU staff. Shared governance is a cornerstone of our university, and SAC plays a vital role in that mission. We encourage nominations from all areas of campus.

Review eligibility information and submit your nomination online. Once nominated, candidates will receive an email to accept or decline the nomination. If accepted, nominees will be asked to submit a short bio and photo.

What’s next? After nominations have closed, SAC invites all FGCU staff to attend the Annual Assembly to participate in the nomination process for 2026-28 SAC representatives.

SAC 2025-26: New Leadership, Initiatives and Engagement Opportunities

The Staff Advisory Council (SAC) is excited to continue supporting our amazing community this next academic year, and we are thrilled to share some exciting updates for this year.

The initiative was developed as part of SAC’s September workshop-based themed meeting focusing on staff recognition.
