Major Connection Process

The process of "Major Connection" refers to a formal shift in who advises students that are in their second year of enrollment through graduation. Students move from being advised by Exploratory Advising to being advised by advisors in the college that houses their major.

All of the required major-specific criteria must be met before you are eligible to connect to college advising. Eligibility is assessed at the conclusion of each semester. Students who connect to college advising are notified via Eagle Email. Please note that the failure to meet academic Major Connection criteria/milestones in a timely matter may render you ineligible to continue in a particular major. In these cases, you will work with Exploratory Advising to identify an alternate major to complete at FGCU.

The connection to college advising occurs at the close of each semester (fall, spring, and summer). Each semester, we review the academic records of all enrolled students working with Exploratory Advising; those students who meet the academic criteria to connect to their college will receive an email from Exploratory Advising notifying them that they will be connected to their college advising office.

Major Connected students will then receive a follow-up email from their college advising unit with further information about how to complete the Major Connection process.

Students who complete their first year of enrollment who have not decided on a major (Undeclared) or who have not met the academic criteria for their major will continue to work with Exploratory Advising to receive additional support and guidance in the process of selecting a major that is the best fit with their interests and abilities.

Major Connection Requirements

To fully prepare for Major Connection, you should review their major requirements in your audit through Degree Works. The degree audit will help you better understand the requirements for your program of study and begin to develop a set of possible courses to take for upcoming semesters. You can also review the curriculum map for your major on the academic department's website.

If you don't transition to your college advisor, you will continue to be advised by Exploratory Advising.  We are here to help you get on track!
