Responsibilities and Duties
The Physical Plant is dedicated to providing essential resources and the continuous maintenance of all university buildings, grounds, and equipment that support a healthy and engaging academic environment. The Physical Plant is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the university-owned physical facilities including the following:
- Building maintenance and repairs
- Maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
- Contract management of custodial services and related activities
- Warehouse operations
- Road maintenance
- Grounds landscaping and irrigation
- Shipping and receiving services
- Contract management of pest control services
- Building envelope (roof, wall, windows, and doors)
- Utility systems (electric, gas, water, and sewer)
- Heating and air conditioning systems
- Waste and recycling
- Electronic recycling
- Custodial services
- Cleaning schedules*
- Signs for custodial staff*
- Pest control
- Key and card programming
- Postal services
- Shipping form*
What Happens After You Submit a Work Order?
We’ve created a step-by-step guide to help you understand how your work order is processed, prioritized, and completed.
Use this guide:
Services requested outside the normal scheduled periods, and outside the scope of Routine Services, are considered chargeable and may be charged back to the requesting College or Department. Requests categorized as Special Services, should be coordinated within the administrative unit of your Department or College. Special Services can include, but are not limited to:
- Signage services
- Moving services
- Carpentry services
- Cleaning/custodial services outside of scheduled times
- Support services for events
- Electrical services above and beyond general maintenance
- Golf cart maintenance and repair - can not repair Star Cart brands.
- General maintenance services/installation of various materials (keyboards, bulletin boards, coat hooks, etc.)
- Lock and key services and card readers (replacement, change, install, re-key) not part of new construction
- Plumbing services (relocate, install; for outside events or activities) not part of new construction
Labor Rates for special services are as follows:
- $48.00 – Regular Time
- $72.00 - Overtime
